As the Green Roof Superintendent for Gordon Contractors, Inc., I am responsible for overseeing all phases of installation and maintenance for our green roof projects. To date I have supervised 15 projects. Prior to working for Gordon Contractors, Inc. I became a certified Green Roof Professional (GRP) with the Green Roofs for Healthy Cities organization, where the importance of sustainable policy and good green roof practices were emphasized. In 2011 I graduated from Chatham University with a Master of Science in Biology where I tailored my thesis to explore the use of biochar, a pyrolytically created form of organic matter, on green roof growth medium. During this research I collected data on how the biochar affected the water retention and nutrient properties of the growth medium and the implications these enhanced properties had on the selection of native North American plant species for use in green roofs. Prior to obtaining my Master’s degree, I completed my course work at SUNY Fredonia, majoring in Biology where I developed my love of plants and horticulture.
